Il était une fois, dans un petit village niché au bord d'une forêt ancienne, une jeune fille nommée Chloé. Tout le monde l'appelait le Petit Chaperon Rouge, car elle ne quittait jamais la cape rouge que sa grand-mère lui avait confectionnée. 

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled at the edge of an ancient forest, lived a young girl named Chloé. Everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood because she never took off the red cape her grandmother had made for her.

Un matin, sa mère l'appela. "Ta grand-mère est un peu malade," dit-elle. "Apporte-lui ce panier de friandises pour lui remonter le moral." 

One morning, her mother called her. "Your grandmother is a little sick," she said. "Take her this basket of treats to cheer her up."

"Fais attention en traversant la forêt," la prévint sa mère. "Et ne parle à aucun inconnu." Chloé promit d'être prudente, embrassa sa mère et partit.

"Be careful when you cross the forest," her mother warned her. "And don't talk to any strangers." Chloé promised to be careful, kissed her mother, and set off.

La forêt était magnifique. Les rayons du soleil filtraient à travers les feuilles, et les oiseaux chantaient joyeusement. Chloé se sentait heureuse et insouciante. 

The forest was beautiful. Sunbeams filtered through the leaves, and birds sang cheerfully. Chloé felt happy and carefree.

Soudain, un loup s'approcha d'elle. Il était grand, avec une fourrure grise et des yeux jaunes perçants. "Bonjour, petite fille," dit-il d'une voix douce. "Où vas-tu si seule ?" 

Suddenly, a wolf approached her. He was large, with gray fur and piercing yellow eyes. "Hello, little girl," he said in a soft voice. "Where are you going all alone?"

Se souvenant des paroles de sa mère, Chloé fut d'abord méfiante. Mais le loup semblait si amical qu'elle oublia sa promesse. "Je vais chez ma grand-mère," répondit-elle. 

Remembering her mother's words, Chloé was wary at first. But the wolf seemed so friendly that she forgot her promise. "I'm going to my grandmother's house," she replied.

"Et où habite ta grand-mère ?" demanda le loup, sa queue remuant doucement. "De l'autre côté de la forêt, dans la petite maison près du grand chêne," expliqua Chloé.

"And where does your grandmother live?" asked the wolf, his tail wagging gently. "On the other side of the forest, in the little house near the big oak tree," Chloé explained.

"Oh, comme c'est gentil de ta part de lui rendre visite," dit le loup. "Pourquoi ne pas cueillir quelques-unes de ces jolies fleurs pour elle ? Elle serait ravie." 

"Oh, how kind of you to visit her," said the wolf. "Why don't you pick some of these pretty flowers for her? She would be delighted."

Chloé pensa que c'était une excellente idée. Pendant qu'elle cueillait un bouquet, le loup fila à toute vitesse vers la maison de la grand-mère. 

Chloé thought that was an excellent idea. While she was picking a bouquet, the wolf sped off towards the grandmother's house.

Le loup arriva à la maison et frappa à la porte. "Qui est là ?" demanda la grand-mère d'une voix faible. "C'est moi, le Petit Chaperon Rouge," imita le loup. 

The wolf arrived at the house and knocked on the door. "Who's there?" asked the grandmother in a weak voice. "It's me, Little Red Riding Hood," the wolf mimicked.

"Tire la chevillette et la bobinette cherra," dit la grand-mère. Le loup entra, et sans un mot, il avala la pauvre grand-mère tout rond. 

"Pull the pin and the latch will open," said the grandmother. The wolf entered, and without a word, he swallowed the poor grandmother whole.

Puis, il enfila le bonnet de nuit et les lunettes de la grand-mère et se glissa dans le lit, attendant Chloé. 

Then, he put on the grandmother's nightcap and glasses and slipped into bed, waiting for Chloé.

Peu de temps après, Chloé arriva et frappa à la porte. "Entre, ma chérie," dit le loup, essayant de rendre sa voix plus douce. 

A short time later, Chloé arrived and knocked on the door. "Come in, my dear," said the wolf, trying to make his voice sound softer.

Chloé entra et s'approcha du lit. "Comme tu as de grandes oreilles, grand-mère !" s'exclama-t-elle. "C'est pour mieux t'entendre, mon enfant," répondit le loup. 

Chloé entered and went to the bed. "What big ears you have, Grandmother!" she exclaimed. "All the better to hear you with, my child," replied the wolf.

"Et comme tu as de grands yeux, grand-mère !" continua Chloé. "C'est pour mieux te voir, mon enfant." 

"And what big eyes you have, Grandmother!" Chloé continued. "All the better to see you with, my child."

"Mais grand-mère, comme tu as de grandes dents !" dit Chloé, commençant à avoir peur. "C'est pour mieux te manger !" hurla le loup. 

"But Grandmother, what big teeth you have!" said Chloé, starting to feel scared. "All the better to EAT you with!" roared the wolf.

Et il avala le Petit Chaperon Rouge d'une seule bouchée. Son estomac bien rempli, le loup se recoucha et s'endormit, ronflant bruyamment. 

And he swallowed Little Red Riding Hood in one gulp. With his stomach full, the wolf lay back down and fell asleep, snoring loudly.

Un chasseur qui passait par là entendit les ronflements et pensa que c'était étrange. Il entra dans la maison et vit le loup endormi. 

A hunter passing by heard the snores and thought they sounded strange. He entered the house and saw the sleeping wolf.

Comprenant ce qui s'était passé, le chasseur prit une paire de ciseaux et ouvrit délicatement le ventre du loup. 

Realizing what had happened, the hunter took a pair of scissors and carefully cut open the wolf's stomach.

Le Petit Chaperon Rouge et sa grand-mère en sortirent, saines et sauves. Ils remercièrent le chasseur et promirent de ne plus jamais parler aux inconnus dans la forêt.
